Winter News from The Winery
The gardens are tucked in for their winter rest and the trees are bare, but we're keeping busy during these short, dark days bottling new wines for you to try!
This past summer we were lucky enough to work with the wonderful Ann Kraemer and her highly sought after Shake Ridge Ranch vineyard fruit, sourcing ultra premium barbera and petite sirah.
Both the petite and barbera were naturally fermented with their native yeasts, with nothing added or adjusted. The wines have both been developing into complex and aromatic beauties, even this early in their life, though they will rest in barrel for another year before bottling.
While working in the winery over the holidays we discovered a small lot of barbera we had set aside was especially delicious at such a young age- well balanced, fruity, bright- so we went ahead and bottled it as a bonus release, our barbera "nouveau" if you will. With only six cases made it will be a very special wine when it's released next month, so reserve yours in advance! Allocation is limited to two bottles per customer, with priority reserved for wine club members.
2020 was a difficult year for the world, but we feel incredibly fortunate that all of our wines from the season have arrived smoke-taint free from the summer's fires, and that despite the economic hardships imposed from covid our customers were supportive enough to make our 2020 sales our best to date!
As our wine club membership picked up speed we added a new Quarterly Club tier for local-ish customers who could pick up or meet us for their orders. Our case club also expanded with dozens of new members this year who single-handedly bought out every bottle of our 2019 natural carignan this fall. Given all of this support, we're looking at 2021 with plans to add new tiers to our wine club, as well as increasing our varietals on offer. The 2021 season will also see the release of our first sparkling wines, which are in the works this month, as well as our first primitivo rosé to be released this spring.
The most important news is that the winery puppies are growing quickly and have become inseparable friends. Mongo the lab is now fully grown at 2 years old though he still acts like a young pup, and Olaf the pyrannees (previous known as Zorro) is now 1 year old and as big as a pony.
While we all miss hosting our friends and club members for barrel tastings and tours, the pups are espcially eager to see you all up on the farm again soon! In the meantime, we drink to your health and to a better future for us all in 2021.
Wishing you all a peaceful new year,
The Boggs Family at Tabeaux Cellar
