So Ready For Fall
This email comes straight from the farm after a long day of work at the winery! Crush 2021 is in full swing as we harvest, stomp, press, pump over, barrel down and bottle up wines from t-bins, tanks and carboys. The 2020 wines are tasting amazing and will be ready for release in another month or so, but even our youngest fresh wines of 2021 are already tasting good enough to drink!
Just like the month of September, the winery is in a bit of a transitional season right now. We're selling through the last of the wines released earlier this summer like our 2020 primitivo rosé and are on the cusp of releasing our newly bottled fall and winter reds. Because of this, we're making Quarterly Packs to match the mood, splitting the selection between the last of the light summer wines and including one of our newest releases, the Vin d'Amador to take you into leaf and sweater season.
A Note About Piquette
I sent folks this write-up back in June but since we have new wine club members this time around I wanted to include it again. If you're new, read on! If you're an old hand, skip down...
If you haven't heard of or tried piquette then you're in for a real treat! Piquette is an old French tradition of making a secondary wine from already pressed grape skins, resulting in a very low alcohol, light bodied wine that drinks more like a beer. Historically piquette would be drunk by workers while out in the fields given its refreshing nature and good value, but today it's experiencing a revival as a low alcohol "daytime wine" perfect for picnics, boat trips and al fresco summer lunches.
For our first try at piquette we took the freshly pressed-out skins from our flagship Tabeaux primitivo and added them to a stainless tank to naturally re-ferment with water, a healthy glob of organic honey from our neighbors at Pagham Star Ranch (that's their barn pictured above!) and lots of organic O'Henry peaches from our own farm here at Tabeaux.
The result is a lightly fruity beverage coming in at around 8% ABV with a touch of carbonation to keep it fresh on the palate and bright in the glass. Serve cold and drink on a hot summer day!
